The manufacturers of sanitary paper in Germany are warning of the consequences of skyrocketing gas and electricity prices and a possible supply stop for Russian gas. An interruption in gas supplies would lead to immediate production stops and a supply crisis in this important, systemically important product area. This is particularly so because the industry is dependent on gas for production. The situation is already threatening the existence of the company due to the massive rise in energy prices.
The companies organized in the association refer to the importance of hygiene paper in medical facilities as well as in the private and commercial sectors. Here, the manufacturers would have ensured the supply even under the difficult conditions of the corona pandemic and would have done their utmost to cushion the consequences of the hamster purchases.
However, the current situation on the energy markets – the gas price on the spot market was more than ten times higher than a year ago – has already led to temporary shutdowns in some cases, as production is no longer economical. A gas supply stop would affect the entire German industry and thus also the production of sanitary paper and could lead to supply bottlenecks.
